The Mavericks were victorious on Saturday night as they defeated the Missouri State University Ice Bears by a score of 5-2.
Chesterfield, Missouri - UNO struck first in this one as Wyatt Wagner continues to stay hot in this tournament. Scoring his 4th of the playoffs at 7:29 of the opening frame. At 15:13, Tyler Schirmer would score his 3rd of these playoffs as there was chaos in front of the net, puck bouncing and he got a stick on it to put it past the Bears goaltender, Espen Reager. Camden Forys with the helper. A couple of minutes later the Mavs would lose their cool a little bit as Brayden Krauth and Jimmy Shea would both earn themselves a penalty, putting the Bears on a two-man advantage. Missouri State capitalized once with exactly one minute to go in the first as senior Tyler Culleton wired one in from the left circle. Assists given to Zach Foerstel and Carter Eifert.
The second period was full of saves as only one goal was scored. Culleton potted his second of the evening as he was assisted by Alex Ringhofer, just over five minutes into the middle frame. Score knotted up at 2 after 40 minutes. Reager with 32 stops to that point and UNO’s Nahuel Veyan with 15.
The third period had been deadlocked until just about halfway through. Chase Mann of the Mavericks had received a pass from Rocco DiSpirito and fired one in to regain the UNO lead at 9:34. A few minutes later, another UNO marker by Krauth, unassisted. Then to finish it off, Charlie Shea picked up the puck in the neutral zone and charged down the ice until guiding the puck into an empty net to seal the win and punch the Mavs’ ticket to the MACHA Silver Conference Championship game. Veyan completed the bout with 19 saves, doing enough to help out his teammates in this huge W!
